I am glad to report that our meeting with the Mayor and EZ board executive committee members went well. You wont read about this in our daily newspaper because they are not interested in any positive interaction among whites and blacks. If the mayor had told us to pound sand they would have put us on the front page. The mayor and company agreed to the below listed 5 items and now we are in the planning and implementation stage of the process. We are having a planning meeting for African American Alliance members on JUNE 8 AT 6:00PM AT THE MINNEAPOLIS URBAN LEAGUE. Anyone who attended any of the Empowerment Zone workshops is a member of the Alliance. I would strongly suggest that if you are a member of the Alliance that you attend this meeting as we will be moving forward at a rapid pace to give our community the economic jolt that it needs. African American contractors are strongly encouraged to attend because we will be adding to our list of contractors to submit to the mayor for his 40 million dollar North Minneapolis Housing intuitive. The mayor has done the right thing and the ball is now in our court. We will also be updating the community on what plans we have for moving forward. Everything is happening at a rapid pace and missing this meeting could set you and your business a couple steps behind those who attend.

I would like to thank Al Flowers, Clarence Hightower, Jim Cook, Zack Metroyer, and all the Alliance members who made this happen. If you have any question please e-mail me or call Al Flowers at 612-825-1699 or Zack at 612-251-0837

The list:

1. 2/3 of all current and future EZ/EC funds shall directly benefit EZ residents.
2. The African American community shall receive no less then 30% of any and all funds the Minneapolis Empowerment Zone receives utilizing Empowerment Zone status.
3.All EZ/EC expenditures exceeding $50,000.00 shall be disbursed utilizing a RFP process or other process that enables an equal opportunity of access.
4.A portion of real property (commercial and residential) owned by the city of Minneapolis shall be made available for the economic and livability needs of the African American community though the Alliance.
5.The city of Minneapolis shall account for and return all funds received as repayment of EZ loans or unused EZ funds.
