Economic and Social Benefit to America's Families.<<

American Dream for millions of Americans and the commitment to open the door
for millions more. The Homeownership Alliance has planned an exciting and
educational month of activities to celebrate the American Dream.

activities. The month-long celebration promotes homeownership and its many
social and economic benefits. Homeownership Month focuses attention on

It has been argued that he greatest "Economic Development" project ever
conceived and then implemented in the United States was the G.I. Bill. After
WWII millions of houses were built and millions of families who had never
had an opportunity to own a home rose out of poverty through homeownership.
Even more millions of people were put to work building those houses. U.S.
industry was revitalized that employed even more millions of people to
supply the needs of those "Homes". That "Greatest of Generations" charged
and jump started an economy suffering from both the worst depression and the
worst war in our Nation's history with their "G.I. Bill". The poor families
in Minneapolis need that same stability and economic development in their
lives, and the City of Minneapolis needs that same vision and vitality
today. It is time the "Children of the Greatest Generation" remembered the
wisdom of their mothers and fathers. It is now "OUR TIME"

American Indian Community Development Corporation in partnership with
Minneapolis, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, and the Ventura Village
Neighborhood is beginning construction of many quality homes for this very
purpose. Perhaps we should have other neighborhoods and developers post
what similar efforts they will be making to create affordable homeownership
opportunities this month. Such efforts both stabilize the lives of our
families' children and the City of Minneapolis as a whole.

For further information on how the City of Minneapolis will be, or can be,
duplicating any of these efforts please call your City Council Member and
the Mayor's office. Ask what they are personally doing to implement
affordable homeownership. Also give them your own ideas about what direction
we should be going.

It is now "OUR TIME"

Ventura Village, Phillips Community, in the Sixth Ward of Minneapolis
