Below my sig is an announcement regarding "The Corporation" -- the movie
based on an excellent book by Joel Bakan, a distinguished attorney whose
expertise is in international and corporate law.

I saw the movie when it was here for the Minneapolis International film
Festival, and have read the book by Bakan. I highly recommend both the
movie and book to all.

The movie is scheduled to run at the Lagoon Theater in Minneapolis starting
in mid-July.

Bakan's incisive analysis of the institution of the corporation as the most
significant single entity shaping our lives and political culture is
revolutionary in the best sense of the word.

The movie includes commentary from Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore, as well
from the likes of businessman Ray Anderson (founder and chairman of
Interface, Inc, the world's largest commercial carpet manufacturer), as well
as economist Milton Friedman, amoung others.

Of particular concern to cities and other local governments is the topic
"The Externalizing Machine" addressed in chapter 3 of the book, and
"Democracy, Ltd" addressed in chapter four. Any citizen or local leader can
better understand the real relationship between cities, neighborhoods or
communities and corporations by reading these chapters -- or wait for the
movie!

If you want to understand more about how the large corporations dominate our
urban policy, and what we can do to bring democacy back, "The Corporation"
is packed with vital information and analysis.
