I completely agree with Dan McGuire's comment,..
"And, Bill Kahn, I don't think you need to apologize
to the list for keeping Pratt's situation up for
discussion. I would rather that it were one of many
associated threads that included Kenny's, Hiawatha's,
Northrop's, Howe's, etc. plight."...
Hearing similar impassioned dialog a couple years ago
from residents and parents was a big factor in the
selection of where my daughter would enroll. In that
case, the issue revolved around the Bottineau Early
Education Center in NE.
Bottineau has high degrees of parent involvement,
community connection and teacher commitment. I think
these three elements mutually support each other and
are probably solid indicators of a "competitive"
school. In fact, it seems to compete well against
charter schools, private schools and nearby school
districts in the area.
Are schools such as Pratt a way for MPS to be
competitive in an aggressive, success-assuming and
growth-oriented way? What part of current MPS
proposals are road maps to reclaiming/growing "market
share"?
