The Walker is definitely quirky, but difficult to love. It's "architecture" is deliberately uninviting, undermining its utility as a center of community. I think it's too early to be cynical about the proposal for a mixed-use site. Let's see what they come up with.

I think this is also a good example of how pedestrian density can reverse the auto-centric process that remade parts of the city into surface parking lots like at Hiawatha and Lake.

Where foot traffic is dominant or at least significant, it creates a virtuous circle where more pedestrian-oriented buildings may profitably be built.
