Tamir et al.: 'Life is a tale/Told by an idiot/Full of sound and fury/Signifying nothing.' If I have to live with Dean Zimmerman and Bob Lilligren (at the same time being my representative in the Sixth Ward, one living in the 9th Ward, elected in the Sixth Ward, the other elected in the Eighth Ward, now wanting to be my 'representative' in the Sixth Ward, neither of them worth a hill of beans or Greens. . . I see Representative Kahn's point. . . give me a ballot, my kingdom for a ballot (make it as soon as possible) and I would vote for Gary Schiff if I had my druthers.
Gary Dombouy, Whittier I also read this story in the paper. Please excuse the angry title my post but the very idea of a council election this year, in these wards, which are at worst illegally drawn, at best politically motivated make this third ward resident (the ward that already went through an election in 2003) very angry. Perhaps it's because our neck of the woods would have had elections in 2001,2003,2004 and then 2005, only for the sole purpose of trying to unseat the two Greens on the council.... ...or maybe it's "Representative" (in quotes because the term "representative" implies listening to and respecting your constituents, not trying to rule them) Kahn's "I know what's best for you better than you do" attitude...you know, the one where she figures that my tax money is better spent on a city election only one year before we'd have one anyway when we have unemployment, problems in housing, public safety and infrastructure etc...., but I can't read these articles without wanting to throw something. I'm pleading with anyone who lives in 59b to retire "Representative" Kahn this year and vote FOR multi party democracy in Minnesota, vote FOR representation that DOESN'T condescend to and insult their constituents, and help those of us who live in the third ward (mostly 59b) and the sixth and eighth wards (also areas the "Representative" Kahn doesn't technically represent) run our OWN affairs and choose our OWN representation at the time when we're suppose to have elections... ... and let our council members do the job they were elected to do instead of constantly fighting for their political survival every year! If "Representative" Kahn is successful in this lawsuit, then Minneapolis might as well be "represented" by Tom DeLay. The difference between their tactics is "Representative" Kahn explains her partisan motives (directed at the Green Party...she seems to get along OK with the Republicans) in legalese gobbledygook and lists "important" people, better than the rest of us, to whom we should listen. Tom DeLay is honest about his partisan intentions. Tamir Nolley Not wanting to go though yet another special election in Holland (59a) Bill Dooley wrote: Nice story by Rochelle Olson bringing us up to date on the various lawsuits surrounding the redistricting of Minneapolis wards. Apparently, depending on how the federal court rules, we could have new city council elections this November.
