Level of influence that residents have living near the airport...? While some homes by
Lake Nokomis are very nice, many homes in the Nokomis area were built as one bedroom
bungalows, cottages in the 20's and 30's to house military and the neighborhoods look
very much like the Windom Park area. During WWII, it was very lively and the in place
to be... such as the Uptown of the day. In the fifties, most of the wealth migrated to
the Kenwood area and Edina and it became a place for starter homes/families. The
airport never seemed to be a problem until Northwest became a glutton starting in the
60's. There was no concern about the residents.
Low flying planes would shake the liquid out of a cup. All the items in your house
would be tipped and falling off the shelves..breaking. Could not use the upstairs of
the house due to vibrations and noise. Went to bed with noise and stayed awake with
noise and got up with noise. Every so often the whole area would have a yellowish dust
that came down in the form of rain. It was fuel being dropped from the planes. We have
had our share of pollution.

Northwest has received a lot of perks along the way. They have some of the highest
rates in the industry along with a monopoly in the state.
They have received a lot of help from both the state and the federal government...all
tax money from the little people. When they want more, if not forthcoming, they
threaten to move out of town. Northwest is tugging at our politicians with the poor
me. poor me while their flights are full.
Even before 9/11 could be sorted out, Northwest was filing a claim of hardship.

This agreement should be honored and not twisted and turned as it has been in the past
few years. This is money that people using the airport are paying..not Northwest. This
is a political move...one that is not in the best interest of the residents.

Level of influence....? We pay taxes for police we don't have, we pay taxes for a
library that is only open 3 days a week, we have light rail and no way to get to it
because the bus service has been cut, and we have airplanes flying over the house
but are told that we don't have a noise problem. We have Bossen but no crime problems
and it sounded like we did not have a lead problem either with our 70/80 year old
homes!
