After reading the article in the StarTrib and having also read previously that Interim Superintendent Gurban accepted the position with the MPRB before consulting with his previous employer about a leave, the 12 day overlap and then quick resignation makes me believe that Mr. Gurban not a "plan ahead" sort of fellow. After all it seems that he had been meeting individual Park Board members before the Dec 17th interim appointment and he signed his employment agreement on Dec. 30th ( I have a copy provided by the MPRB). I think that even if it was during the holiday season something could have been decided over a 3 week period? Is this the type of leadership we want at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board? I was under the impression that one of the main tasks facing our next superintendent was a long range plan for the entire system, and as stated above "planning" is apparently not I.S. Gurban's forte. I hope as the Board Members of the MPRB enter their second round of a search for a superintendent, they focus heavily on the skills that will be needed for this "30 year plan". Also someone who has a fabulous set of skills in maintaining a great system in era of NO NEW TAX PLEDGES that adversly effect their budgets (and often at the last minute).
