The Fire Last Time
Can a 1934 strike ignite a 21st century labor movement?
by Lydia Howell
"Seventy years ago, in the Minneapolis Warehouse District, the youth-led
1934 Teamsters took to the streets, like the anti-globalization movements in Seattle and Miami today. One of the largest of the 3,500 strikes that year, the Minneapolis victory played a major role in creating the eight-hour day, 40 hour work week, job-safety regulations, benefits and the legal right of workers to organize unions."

Zinefest draws writers, artists from across US [@ Stevens Square Center for the Arts]
by Emily Urness
"Like many of us, Nate Gangelhoff spent middle school sitting bored in the back of class, vandalizing notebooks with drawings and writing. Unlike many of us, he found a forum for that creativity when he saw his first zine a low-budget, self-published magazine."

The Deaths: Out of Fargo, into the rock revolution [tonight @ Triple Rock Social Club]
by Tim Kindem
"No band is like The Deaths. In a crowd of emo clones and flavor-of-the-week garage rockers, The Deaths stand alone. Perhaps that is why, without a
record deal or even a recording they are satisfied with, they have shared
the stage with some of the biggest names in indie rock, from The Kills to
Dub Narcotic Sound System."
