Thanks to Vanessa Freeman and Shawn Lewis for their excellent posts on life in the war zone that is the Northside. Sadly, our governor, mayor and many of our other leaders seem not to be getting the message... then again maybe they've gotten the message that the Northside is a lost community, best used as an overflow for our prisons. It seems like us Northsiders are the only ones that haven't gotten the message and moved out.

Perhaps it's time for us to abandon the Northside too. For a start, we could set up an encampment on the State Capital grounds- with all the Governor's security detail around this would clearly be the safest spot in the state, and close enough in that we could still commute to work. While shopping for new homes in safer neighborhoods we could move our encampment to the local Bush campaign headquarters, offices of the various companies that have abandoned the Northside, etc....

If our encampment of refugees from the Northside fails, it's time to move on for good... and quite paying taxes, rent, and mortgage payments on Northside property. There may not be much assessed value here, but as broke as Minneapolis is they need all the tax $$$ they can get, and a Northside tax revolt could push Minneapolis into bankruptcy. I'm sure the mayor might be moved though by pressure from lenders seeing increasingly worthless but heavily mortgaged real estate on the Northside go deeply into default. Gee, maybe we could even push a predatory lender or two into bankruptcy?
