Perhaps it's time for us to abandon the Northside too. For a start, we could set up an encampment on the State Capital grounds- with all the Governor's security detail around this would clearly be the safest spot in the state, and close enough in that we could still commute to work. While shopping for new homes in safer neighborhoods we could move our encampment to the local Bush campaign headquarters, offices of the various companies that have abandoned the Northside, etc....
If our encampment of refugees from the Northside fails, it's time to move on for good... and quite paying taxes, rent, and mortgage payments on Northside property. There may not be much assessed value here, but as broke as Minneapolis is they need all the tax $$$ they can get, and a Northside tax revolt could push Minneapolis into bankruptcy. I'm sure the mayor might be moved though by pressure from lenders seeing increasingly worthless but heavily mortgaged real estate on the Northside go deeply into default. Gee, maybe we could even push a predatory lender or two into bankruptcy?
