Does anyone know if the Minneapolis Public Library System will
close all it's libraries for the last week in August like they did last year
to 'save money'?

Now, what do we have here?

The Friends of the Pierre Bottineau library raised sums for a fancy fountain
and gardens to pretty up their library

Pat Scott got some but not enough NRP funds for the doomed Walker Library

The Friends of Franklin got a grant from Thrivent to get an interim library
running...

Dorie Rae Gallagher has announced a garage sale on Aug. 15 Sunday... for
the (Nokomis?) Library

Library users are engaging in grassroots efforts to keep their libraries
alive

But....what are the administrators of the New Central Palace doing?

According to an article on green roofs in this weeks Skyway News:

"officials shepherding the New Central Library's construction
are expected to decide this month if they want a green roof
ready for the library's spring 2006 unveiling.

The roof is pricey: $700,000, including $400,000
for a special membrane, said Anne Ulseth,
a New Central Library Project Office spokeswoman.

The New Central Library's current budget does include
money for the green roof, Ulseth said; donations and
city dollars are targeted toward the proposal."

Isn't $700,000 just about what Walker library needs to repair it's roof?

And HOW many hundred thousands are the NCP spending on art?

Meanwhile some branches of the New Central Palace are being killed
(deliberately?)
by being closed, while others are exactly as Wizard said, frantic and
overcrowded when open, with a frazzled overwhelmed, reduced staff,
trying desperately to meet everyone's needs, while the stacks of unshelved
returned materials, grow to the magnitude of an avalanche.
