Police beef up North Side patrols with helicopter

Chief McManus calls for help as homicides rise

BY LISA DONOVAN

Pioneer Press

A spike in the homicides on the North Side of Minneapolis
has police calling in the State Patrol's helicopter to hover
over the hot spot.

Chief William McManus asked the State Patrol for help
Wednesday, and officials agreed to help as the city beefs
up its watch in the area, where the number of homicides
has doubled over the last year.

"There's too many guns, too many shots being fired, too
many people injured and too many people killed,"
said Officer Ron Reier, Minneapolis Police Department
spokesman.
