Greetings: I am Susan Young (a.k.a. the Trash Lady), the Director of Solid Waste and Recycling Services for the City of Minneapolis . On the Issues Forum, many months ago, a plea was made to provide live information on the Web about your Recycling days. I stated then that when our new data base was completed, SW & R would work with the City's Business and Information Services to provide live web lookups.
This service is available to you now!!! If you need to know your Recycling day, go to www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/solid-waste , scroll down to Recycling and Yard Waste Information, and you're there! This service is possible due to development of the Solid Waste Information System (SWIS), our state of the art, customer information data base. We developed SWIS after our "old" (1980's) data base, in DataFlex, became obsolete. SWIS ties to the City's Utility Billing System, to the Hennepin County taxpayer records, to the City's GIS and to the Assessor's Office. It is capable of linking to additional data bases. It is a modular system that will allow us to grow and better serve Minneapolis customers for many years. It is also a system that other cities are interested in. SWIS will be marketed to other cities, both to recover our development costs and to provide additional income to the SW & R Enterprise Fund to help offset future collection and disposal cost increases. Please let me know how you like the Recycling Day lookup, and if there are additional services or information types that you'd like to see on the SW & R Web site. We'll be updating it soon to remove dated information (such as the Living Green Expo.) and to Highlight NEW information (such as the FREEMARKET!). I'll look forward to hearing your comments and ideas. REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules? Email the list manager at [EMAIL PROTECTED] before continuing it on the list. 2.
