Sadly I missed the Breakfast with Gary Discussion of landlord/tenant matters;
I had previous commitments. I did ask in a recent post (and I ask again),
which small business owners called landlord did Gary choose, to represent the
interests of for-profit rental property owners at that breakfast? Gary and Noah
were silent. I did ask (and I ask again) what items, rights, etc., you all
have planned to take from landlords (and hence, give to tenants)? Silence,
silence, siiiilence!!!!

So I ask: Did you accomplish nothing at the little breakfast meeting? Did you
set a NonProfiteers, Do-goodin' anti small business agenda. Or did you bring
a reasonable representation of the legitimate needs of all honest stakeholders
forward and resolve to apply fair, reasonable and ultimately helpful ideas
and initiatives hence forth?

Further, will your effort, and outcome, remain secret from the public until
some other shoe is drop kicked?

Subj: Landlord &Tenant rights Schiffted/ Will Rental Property Owners get

Keith says: I am a rental property owner. I believe generally that the
landlord/tenant rights dynamic is a zero sum game. If a right is given to one; it
must be taken from the other. Further, it is possible to take a right from one,
give it to the other; and have both parties suffer from the outcome of the
shift.

I learned, during the implementation and evolution of the "Mpls. Housing
Crises", how City elected leaders' mean spirited manipulation of municipal
ordinance could be used to create mass homelessness, and the unfair destruction of
private property. Poor tenant families, and affordable rent landlords did
suffer. The components of the demolition juggernaut were hegemony of one political
party led by mean spirited individuals with an 'urban renewal master plan'
agenda, and no shame or compassion over ethnic and economic cleansing strategies,
nor for the sanctity of other peoples property rights. Board it up, knock it
down, tenants rouse!! Gee, that was easy; the County shelters 'um and the City
gets the vacant lot for a buck.

Back to rental property procedure. I do believe some workable agreement need
be established so that for instance, tenant applicant info is portable and
need not be redundantly purchased for each apartment application. I do NOT
believe that City Hall should "limit the number of application fees that can be
collected per unit." I do believe that Council Member Gary Schiff and his tenant
advocates should welcome rental property owner advocates into the circle of
discussion (late, hopefully not too late), before their "proposed ordinance" be
trotted out. I see the possibility that unbalanced, reckless, and dangerous
"do-goodin" by the enforcement of the wish list of professional "do-gooders" may
further harm both landlord and tenant. I hope this breakfast is not part of a
petty tyranny against landlords. I hope Gary isn't fixating on Jackie's power
suits; landlord bashing was a big tool in Jackie's box. CM Schiff, I feel a
chill in the tone of your announcement, below. Can you tell me which for profit
rental property advocates you are bringing to this breakfast meeting? Further,
will you tell me I may be comfortable talking City housing policy with you
there when your invitation states, "Breakfast with Gary is a monthly breakfast
meeting for constituents..." I think all stakeholders should be brought into
this vital, citywide, conversation; do you agree?

Gary, I survived the witchhunt of the former junta but you are OK here when
you bring all parties into the discussion. I do not think you have done that as
yet but I invite, and welcome, you to demonstrate fairness and show me my
hunch is wrong.

This was announced on behalf of CM Gary Schiff:

Is the affordable housing crises over? Despite increased vacancies, renters
are still subject to high fees when applying for an apartment. Sometimes
renters pay hundreds of dollars, and still can't find a place to live, making
transitioning out of shelters difficult. Council Member Gary Schiff and tenant
advocates are proposing an ordinance to limit rental application fees. The proposed
ordinance would insure that renters are given the criteria their application
will be judged on; guarantee that renters are notified of the reasons for
rejection; limit application fees; and limit the number of application fees that
can be collected per unit. Staff and advocates from HOME Line and the Jobs and
Affordable Housing campaign will be on hand.

Breakfast with Gary is a monthly breakfast meeting for constituents hosted by
9th Ward Minneapolis City Council Member Gary Schiff.
