What do list members think about this ideal?

The Jordan Area Community Council, the county and the
city plan to put up to six probation officers into the
neighborhood by setting up an office at 2539 Irving Av. N.

A $40,000 federal empowerment zone grant is serving as
the down payment and refurbishing money for the $170,000,
1,456-square-foot house. Franklin National Bank is supplying
the mortgage to the Community Council, which intends to
lease the house to the county for $1,500 a month.

"We had to take drastic measures," said Hennepin County
Commissioner Mark Stenglein about locating the probation
house in a neighborhood. He came up with the idea and
pitched it to Mayor R.T. Rybak. "It's a horrible indictment
on what we've come to," Stenglein said.

The neighborhood has a high murder rate and has been the
focus of summer crime-fighting efforts. One in nine residents
in Jordan is on probation, the highest concentration in the
city, according to city and county officials.
