From a Star Trib article on Pawlenty's plan on the truancy issue....
..."Adding that she has never even seen a truant officer, Mezee said the state would have to come up with a clever campaign and catchy slogan to get its message across.
"Threats alone won't work," said the senior at Minnesota Transitions Charter School in Minneapolis. "We're smarter than that."
Her classmate, Alisha Francois, who plans to take her driver's license test next week, said the proposal will leave many students frustrated.
"It sounds pretty serious, but this isn't a good strategy to keep us in check," said the 17-year-old from Brooklyn Center, shaking her head. "There has to be another way to scare kids to go to school."
What I want to know is why are we "scaring" kids into going to school?
What happened to the days of kids loving go to school to learn, play, and make friends.
I guess my age is showing...too bad, how sad for the kids if they really are feeling this way? They are already scared enough about a lot of things in life as they are growing up. Living in fear like this should not be one of them.
Sharing a frustrating (yes rhetorical) thought,
