Sorry there Ray, I think that your obviously thoughtful suggestion about not teaching music and art, unless a child is showing success in writing and language is culturally biased. If anything, art and music are the least culture-bound of all the subjects taught. Contrary to popular wisdom, these require a complex set of cognitive skills that do overlap with language and writing. Music and art are also more appropriate to developmental learning so they help students learn a lot of the things that they need to learn how to learn.
