Overall monies for the aviation industry gets about 4.5 billion a year in government
subsidies.
They get 1 billion for military research funds.

They lost 1.35 billion in the 9/11 shutdown...Congress granted the industry 15 billion
bailout..5 billion in cash and the rest in loan guarantees. 80% went to the top nine
airlines which in return layed off 70,000 workers.

The industry got 3 billion bailout because of the Iraq war.

Delta lost 1.3 billion in revenue...its CEO took a 104% raise....6.86 million to 13.6
million.

Continental cut 1200 jobs and the CEO gave himself a 172% raise.

The Gov says Northwest will not use any taxpayers money....give me a break. Who are
the people paying the $4.50. Who are the people paying taxes to the government where
some of the loans are going to come from. 20% of air traffic is the use of
private/business jets..40% are corporate.....they cover only 3% of the costs of their
fuel taxes. The difference is made up by ticket tax on airline passengers. So when you
are sitting in coach with a bag of peanuts...you and others paid 97% of the fuel tax
for a corporate jet.

The rosey picture of new jobs is a marketing ploy...very good Northwest...just like
the jobs that were to be generated up North during a state bail out. I am sure there
will be new jobs, but at what wage? No money for insulation was the cry, the industry
was broke. Give us a third of one of the salaries of the CEO and it will finish the
job.
