Somali president 'a man of peace'
At his inauguration, Somalia's president, tasked with setting up the
first national government in 13 years, said he is "a man of peace".
Wearing a dark suit and a yellow tie, Abdullahi Yusuf read out the
oath in the Somali language, prompting huge cheers in the sports centre
in Kenya.
Several regional heads of state were among thousands to attend the
ceremony.
He was elected by the parliament on Sunday. Rival warlords have been
battling to control Somalia since 1991.

COMMENT:
If everything runs smoothly, it will probably be a year before a
stable Somali government is clearly functioning.
Many cities, including the Minneapolis-St Paul area have large
numbers of Somali people. Will these new resident remain here? Will some
return to help rebuild their original homeland? How will this affect
local employment, housing, or schools?
Since it takes us so long to accomplish anything, our "leaders"
should add this planning issue to their plate today. Of course there are
yet no details. The first task it to plan to evaluate the probable
changes.
Thanks
