This issue about sex offenders is a very simple one to me. We have to many
sex offenders living in certain communities and not others. This is wrong
and the only to rid ourselves of this problem in Minneapolis is through our
city council's legislation. I can't remember one person saying that the city
council doesn't have the power to do such a thing. I say BS. Let them pass
an ordinance and let the court decide if they have the power to do such a
thing. I think outside the box and the word can't is seldom a word that I
choose to use. I live in ground zero (55411) and I know that no one
consistently watches the sex offenders in my community. I regularly see 3-4
registered sex offenders hanging out in the park across the street from my
house late at night. These individuals are not from my community they just
like the sex offender living on my block committed their crime in outstate
Minnesota. I believe sex offenders are humans just like the rest of us and I
don't want to discriminate against anyone, but these people have giving up
their rights to live where ever they choose. They gave that right up the
minute they violated one or more of our mothers and future mothers. People
say we can't get something like this passed. I say we can. It's just going
to take leadership of people like Council Member Johnson-Lee and others. We
may even have to work with some of our republican, independence and green
party members to get something done. Wow wouldn't that be nice. I am
personally going to be leery of anyone who says that we can't get this done.
Maybe they just need to work with people who really want to get something
done rather than just offer lip service. I believe that we can do anything
we want with God's help. Plus the next two years are election years and who
wants to be taught of as a friend to sex offenders.
