Gina, did you perhaps attend SENA's public meeting on traffic and parking held September 28th? Well advertised by postcards to residents and promoted on at least SENA's and NENA's websites, the meeting had much information and discussion by residents, city and county officials, traffic engineers and Met Transit reps. If you were there, I'm sure you learned some the issues and challenges facing parking restrictions. One of those challenges: your area, as well as the 46th and 50th St station areas, does not meet the density requirements of the "Type C" critical parking area you petitioned for so early on.
Nokomis East held a meeting on the same subject on September 14th. The results and a summary of resident input along with much technical and the relevant ordinance information has been posted for some time on our site if you'd like to visit. www.nokomiseast.org Despite what you may think, many of us neighborhood staff have spent many, many hours over the last two years working on these and other issues along the LRT corridor. It is a difficult situation for all parties because, while the issues are very real, the solutions must accommodate more than just a very few. I see both sides of the issue: I live a few doors from the 50th St station, in an area that is picking up many more LRT parkers than either 38th or 46th Streets. Barb is correct: SENA is driven not just by staff, but also by some very active and dedicated volunteers. I'd be willing to bet that SENA would welcome people that are willing to work for the betterment of the neighborhood and the larger city. How about it, Gina?
