This is a positive example of what the Mpls Public Schools can do with their alleged "800 empty classrooms". I've always suspected that number is far too high, but I think it's clear the the school system has more space then it needs. That being the case, finding alternative uses for some of that space seems to me to be a better approach then simply closing down buildings. Alternative uses of the space offer more opportunities for smaller community schools.
I know that this idea isn't easy and I know that schools would have to be careful about access to buildings where there are children, but certainly we should be open to more options then simply closing schools that our communities rely on.
