Mark Anderson replies: I am not an attorney and do not have direct knowledge of this law. But I was an election judge yesterday (at Ebenezer Tower), and (I heard that) we enforced the rule that campaigners had to be 100 feet from the building. We had several challengers at the polling place, and one of them told me that she had the statute with her, which indicated that the rule was 100 feet from the building, not the room.
I presume this is state law? Does anyone know the statute #, or have a copy of it? Jon Lewis writes: The judges are right on this one. There are two separate statutes here. The first, the 100 feet from the door rule, is a no loitering rule that applies to everyone (except Peace officers, who get to be within 50 feet but not more). It's Minn. Stat. 204C.06. http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us:8181/SEARCH/BASIS/mnstat/public/www/D DW?W%3DTEXT+PH+IS+%27100+feet%27+ORDER+BY+SORT_KEY/Ascend%26M%3D26%26K%3 D204C.06%26R%3DY%26U%3D1 The other one, the 100 feet from the building rule, deals with campaigning. It prohibits campaign activity within 100 feet of the building. It's Minn. Stat. 211B.11. http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us:8181/SEARCH/BASIS/mnstat/public/www/D DW?W%3DTEXT+PH+IS+%27100+feet%27+ORDER+BY+SORT_KEY/Ascend%26M%3D27%26K%3 D211B.11%26R%3DY%26U%3D1 It's confusing.
