For those of you with cable I would recommend catching the Oldani Presentation to the MPRB. > it will be rebroadcast on Nov. 13 at noon and Nov. 14 at 6pm. Having attended this meeting I could not believe the tap dancing done by Andrea Sims as she included Jon Gurban in with the other 2 candidates (Cristofer Gears and Dirk Richwine) who had better skills (one in the financial area and this is my biggest concern with our spend happy big 5) and actual educational and work experience to back up their applications. The only real experience Jon Gurban has in a **large** park system is his NOT VERY SKILLFUL 10 months with the MPRB. I have yet to read a report that mentions detailed specifics, and as for this years budget planning...Rather than having a formal plan with a real budget to back up the dollars they want in taxes..their plan is ask for the max, get what they can and cut to make the numbers meet. This is not what I would call responsible budgeting and as for long term planning, I have not seen any evidence of this except for Commissioner Fine's "Dream Fields" at the Parade/BrynMawr site...which he did an end run around the commissioner for that district (Vivian Mason) who is concerned about all matters fiscal. If you have a question for the incoming applicants for the Superintendents postions feel free to send them to Mary Paige c/o of the MPRB at 2117 W River Rd, Minneapolis,MN 55411. She will need your questions by November 24th to screen for duplicates and illegals (remember the St.Paul incident with the sheriff). If yours is chosen you will be contacted and asked to personally read the question if you would like at the Superintendent Search public interview. This community "round robin" interview is on Wednesday December 1st from 5:00-7:00pm at the MPRB headquarters. The formal interviews by the board are on Tuesday Nov. 30th at 5:00 and will be open to the public and telecast live on the cable channel. Comments from the public (written, e-mailed and telephoned) will be accepted until 5:00pm Friday December 3rd and distributed to the commissioners on Monday the 6th. The final selection will be made at a special meeting of the MPRB on Wed. Dec 8th at 5:00pm (also open to the public). The Superintendent of the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board is responsible for an annual budget of almost $50 million taxpayer dollars, over 170 parkland areas, many buildings, a large number of employees etc.... I do not feel it should be put in the hands of Jon Gurban, a man who has large time gaps in his resume, and lists one job without the name of the company/agency, and has spent most of the past decade working as the director of an association he is now suing.
