Well, I want to answer Mark's comment below...because I want to say that Mr.. Gurban has actually done some good things in the park system this year that warrant mentioning. Are they great accomplishments, do they lead to a great vision and legacy, do they lead to getting a job where many of the Park Superintendent's stay around for 20-30 years. Are they great enough to overlook credentials and gaps in one's resume (without explanation). I don't think so.

Good work points:
- Improved staff morale immensely
- Implemented first parts of comprehensive plan, reorganization and visioning efforts for the next 25 years
- Worked with some neighborhood groups on projects to get them off the back burner and pushed to the front and got them done.

I could list weak points and other issues but don't feel this is the right forum for going into great depth on this but thought I should say that I, like John Erwin want to get through the interviews, the citizen's questions and comments and the background checks, etc. There are still some hurdles to get us to where we are going in 2005.
Annie Young
citywide Park Commissioner

And as a related question:

Can anyone name one significant positive contribution that Gurban has made
during this past year that he's been the interim superintendent that might
possibly justify overlooking his lack of qualifying credentials?
