Minneapolis names new Empowerment Zone chief November 17, 2004 Jonathan Palmer, a longtime Minneapolis activist, is the city's new Empowerment Zone administrator.
Palmer, once a City Council candidate, is executive director of the Jordan Area Community Council. He will start his new job Dec. 1. Palmer, who is on the zone's board, said he hopes to reach deeper into the inner-city neighborhoods designated as part of the zone. The city received federal Empowerment Zone designation in 1999 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
