Sorry Scott, I have supported Commissioners on both sides of the Many debates. I have little interest in which faction is in control of the Park Board. I entered the discussion to put forth a view of the selection process of Park Superintendent.
Scott you are running for the Park Board. It is the job of the candidates to define what is their perspective on the Board. I appreciate your efforts to define these issues. I am more concerned with the way charter and alternative schools are treated by the Park Board. Minneapolis Schools have prevented charter schools from using the Lake Street YWCA even though state and NRP funds were used on the facility. Therefore, we need to use Park facilities. We are effectively eliminated from Matthew Park facility in your neighborhood. Again Minneapolis schools have blocked our use. We are now using the Green Gym run by the Park Board. This required the help of the Park Commissioner of the District. Charter and alternative schools are also prevented from the use of the Minneapolis Park Police School Patrol since the Park Board took over School Patrol duties. This is an unresolved issue. I am not concerned which Park Board Commissioners you are supporting. Instead, I would hope you would speak to the issues that effect the Charter and Alternative Schools in the 3rd Park district. The 3rd Park District has a high concentration of alternative and charter school students. I do not think any of the commissioners really see themselves representing either an environmental agenda or recreation agenda. I think the Park Commissioners would prefer to support both. Tony Scallon Howe Neighborhood and Minnesota Transitions Charter School located in the 3rd Park District. REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
