Get your fill of Park Board politics and soap opera with a double-dose, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 30 and December 1, at 5:00pm both nights.

*** On Tuesday, November 30, the board will be interviewing their two finalists from which they will select a superintendent to appoint for what will likely
be a multi-year contract.

At 5:00pm, the board will interview current interim superintendent and persona non grata among many park lovers, Jon Gurban.

At 6:00pm, the board will interview Cristofer Gears, former head of the St. Louis Park system, currently running the county park system and county building facilities in Kitsap County, Washington. (Kitsap County is located directly across Puget Sound from Seattle, and yes, you can say beautiful area.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** On Wednesday, December 1, the board will meet again for their regular first meeting of the month and there will be a round-robin question presentation to the finalists Gears and Gurban of questions submitted by the public. Questions will be read by the citizens who submitted them if they are present at the meeting, otherwise by Mary Page, Park Board human resources manager.

In addition to the fun of watching the candidates think on their feet, we will also get to see the Park Board approve spending of a bundle of money. In particular, we will see them approve 3-year contracts for a pair of lobbyists, Maryann Campo and Park Board legal counsel Brian Rice (that's correct, Rice gets paid for lobbying and his tiny law firm bills the Park Board over $400,000 a year in legal fees, too).

Per the official agenda:

8.1 THAT THE BOARD APPROVE AN AGREEMENT WITH MARYANN CAMPO TO PROVIDE LOBBYING SERVICES FOR THE THREE-YEAR PERIOD JANUARY 1, 2005 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2007 IN AN AMOUNT OF $40,000.00 PER YEAR.

8.2 THAT THE BOARD APPROVE AN AGREEMENT WITH BRIAN RICE TO PROVIDE LOBBYING SERVICES FOR THE THREE-YEAR PERIOD JANUARY 1, 2005 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2007 IN AN AMOUNT OF $70,000.00 PER YEAR.
