John Harris falsely accuses: "I don't expect Victoria to answer as she is
very good at throwing out outrageous claims and then never readdressing
them."

Vicky here: There must be some amnesia here on the List since I've been
posting examples for almost three years. One recent post on the subject was
on September 24th. Two more on November 11th. Look them up.

Another Listmember wrote on September 24th: "The actual value of the house
in its state of rehabilitation was less than we paid for the house and the
city adjusted our property tax valuation to ACCURATELY reflect that. I
understood at the time that when homeowners contact the city with this
explanation, it was pretty much standard that the city would try to work
with the homeowner to free up the cash needed to buy all those ABS elbows
and t's."

Here's another one: A surface parking lot (711 1st Street North) is worth
more than the Whitney Hotel! Yep, that old parking lot went from a
valuation of $99,000 in 1996 to $3,912,700 in 2004. Just last year, its
value was $703,400. Look it up - and be glad you don't own it.

I could post an example a day for the rest of my life - but I don't really
want to spend my time that way. So, you guys can take it from here.

Jim Graham: "Perhaps we do need a less "Wink, Wink" method, but it would
need to be State wide, not just Minneapolis."

Vicky: Yes, absolutely. It's not just Minneapolis: Minnesota's property
tax system should be more like its neighboring states. Remember that MN's
property taxes are DOUBLE those of Wisconsin and Iowa - not good for
attracting business.
