As promised I will be taking my little hand held video camera to City Hall
from noon on February 24th
staying through the night on the steps/sidewalks outside of City Hall.
During the day I will be seeking out our elected leaders and police chief to
ask what they plan to do to end the punishing of person's experiencing
homelessness in our fair city.
Footage of this experiment in democratic dialogue will be placed on my web
site.
As our civil and human rights are eroded...there is the need to reclaim our
public spaces.
So, being careful to not block a sidewalk or disturb the peace during the
night, I will stay outside City Hall and then proceed to the 9:30a.m. City
Council meeting on Feb. 25th.
I may risk arrest by dancing in the street. Depends on how I feel that night.
In answer to questions/accusations normally put to me:
1. Who do I represent?
only myself.
2. What organization do I belong to?
none. I don't like joining organizations.
3. How many people do I expect to join me?
couldn't say...I know I will be there.
4. What do I hope to gain.
My preference would be to document (via video) a spiritual and moral
epiphany on the part of our civic leaders so they will actually take action to
end
homelessness in this city and stop criminalizing homelessness.
5. Isn't this campout stuff getting old?
Having people in crappy shelters and forced into the streets while treated
as if they are invisible is getting old.
