I have neither power, nor money, but I have asked questions of both Mayor
Rybak, and Councilmember Schiff, and both have answered SOME of them. It's
more an issue of what questions they want to answer. For example, I wrote
Gary Schiff about the practice of using police as revenue generators, and
because he agreed with my stand on it, and opposed the Mayor's policy, he
was happy to write back, and explain his efforts in the matter. When I wrote
the mayor about it, he ignored me. When I wrote Gary Schiff and the mayor
about Duigi's, both replied, as they both had an interest in the situation.
Before the Mpls smoking ban was approved, I wrote both Councilmember Schiff,
and Mayor Rybak to find their stand on it, and share my opinion. Neither
replied. The conclusion I draw from this is they prefer to hide their
positions if you are likely to disagree with them. Jim Davine, the state
representative, however has responded to my inquiries - quickly - to
disagree with me. At least he's honest.
