The screw Minneapolis attitude by the Republicans in
the legislature ended up backfiring on them.
Minneapolis Legislators being in safe seats, mobilized
their volunteers to help in other parts of the state.
This type of thing was part of the story about why the
DFLers won. Part of the reason the DFLers won is they
were able to successfully portray the do nothing
legislature as obsessed with Gay Marriage, and
stopping light rail (that hurt big time). The
viscious DFL attacks did work in some districts - most
notably in defeating moderate Repubican Jim Rhodes.
He was unfairly tarred with an extreme agenda he often
fought.

I've seen posts from this list before that demonstrate
that the city of Minneapolis taxpayers pay in much
more than we get back from state taxes. So it's not
the deadbeat City of Minneapolis that sucks state tax
revenue - rather it's rural areas that are the real
drain on the state coffers.

I am also not one of the people who think Police and
Fire should be the only priority in city funding.
Maintenance of the streets and street lights are a
major and constant irritation of living here.
