What the Unsung Heros (or Heroines) reminds me of is when the City of Minneapolis back in the Golden Years (not so long ago) had a wonderful event The Minneapolis Awards. It was often held at International Market Square and other very nice places and about 10-15 people were nominated every year and then given awards, recognized in a nice program and each could bring about 10 guests (who did pay for their meals) at their table from the activity or group they were affiliated with that usually had nominated them. It was a very cool way to recognize the citizens in the city who do lots of volunteer and heroic work for all. Sort of like the CUE-Blooming Boulevards Awards - they have all gone to the wayside with Budget Cuts, paying for an unnecessary war in Iraq, no more Local State and Government Aide and a few other hatchet jobs created by the last couple of administrations - state and federal that trickle to down to the nice things done in community.

How sad!

We still do have a nice ceremony and dinner for both our Adult and Teen volunteers and their work for the Minneapolis Park Board. It is extremely important to give credit where credit is due and to recognize people for their unsung efforts. Bring back the thanks, ceremonies, awards and recognition for many great citizens in Minneapolis who go above and beyond the call of duty.

So maybe this Issues Forum should give KT Simon-Dastych a little award of some sort at our up and coming Happy Hour Party. I do know that KT usually works until 7:00pm but once the date is decided (and right now it is a tie on the votes) maybe she could come and at least get a nice thank you from all of us.

Katie Simon-Dastych gets my vote too as an outstanding neighborhood luminary.

To add to Jenny's list.. treasurer of the Third Precinct Advisory council, an organizer in the save the Bracket Rocket group, park and school advocate, and environmental steward.

Not only does she have a great attitude but she is also great at getting
many of us informed and involved.

Thanks,
