the sidewalk and the bus stop are public places not private property. compare apples to apples. > At the very least NetDoctor says "Passive smoking (their > phrase for second hand smoke) irritates the eyes, nose and chest, and can > cause headache." so can cologne and perfume and i am sure they are next on the banned substance list. i have also had cleaning products have this effect on me as well. add them to the list. > My right to swing my arms and throw my fists > freely ends where your nose begins. if i had a dollar for every time i have heard this... > According to > http://www.bups.co.uk --"Within a few seconds of your first puff, irritating > gases (formaldehyde, ammonia and hydrogen sulphide) start to work on the > sensitive membranes of your eyes, nose and throat. If you continue to smoke, > these gases will result in a smoker's cough." this is the great debate. I don't have time to provide links but they have been posted here over and over. this maybe true for the smoker but hasn't been proven in the case of 2nd hand smoke. i believe there is one study that claims the same effects but the research has been seen as flawed. This is not an issue of protecting the public or workers from 2nd hand smoke but an end around by people like MPAAT to get people to quit smoking. there are more and more places that offer smoke free environments. Murray's is smoke free in the dining room. i believe perkins are smoke free at least at certain times of the day. The 50's grill up in brooklyn center is smoke free. Google smoke free restaurant twin cities and you will be provided a list. there are all places who have determined that they can do the same business eliminating smoking. more will follow. the market will work. Honestly, how many people on the list are just dying to go to the knight cap in nordeast but won't go because people smoke in there? think about it.
