Vicky - you are missing my point completely. I was talking about new refugees/immigrants coming into the US. There are many things that affect the way they react to our government's demands and requirements. One of those is advice they receive from others who have been here and may have only enough legal experience to give dangerous advice. Some of them advise new immigrants to alter dates and the order of events that may have brought them here to make their documents seem more credible. You are right - it is not correct to lie - but they trust others whom they believe know better and often take poor advice. I do not know the timing of Omar's violations for which he is being charged - I am merely suggesting that sometimes there are underlying circumstances we do not know about that can provide an explanation for what might (on the surface) seem to be cut and dried lies. I'm trying to keep an open mind, as I hope the court officials will keep their minds open and will mete out justice not retribution or legalism. Linda Koelman Webber-Camden REMINDERS: 1.
