I have a simple solution. (And I know how everyone likes simple solutions.)
AJ's Personal Transit Plan:
1. Legislate that all taxis must be gas-electric or diesel-electric hybrids by: 2007.
2. Add a fleet of X (100, 200?) taxis to Metro Transit. (Maybe $50,000 purchase price per car, fancy GPS gizmos to help route the cars around efficiently)
3. Make it a low price per ride. (Maybe $5 for up to 5 Miles). Discounts to drop you off at LRT stops. You can use your GoTo card.
Problem solved.
With all the money saved we could get to work on solving the real problems... like a LRT line down 35W South.
If I go back to school for urban-planning I'll work out all the numbers for everyone.
Remember. This is all about MASS transit. We want to work towards lines and systems that can move 50,000+ people a day.
