Umm...how long will it take to load each 4-person car and how long to account for deceleration/acceleration time? A nose-to-tail headway will not pass muster with NTSB. It would likely mandate a following distance similar to the recommendations for cars.
With computer control the cars can run much closer together than cars on a freeway. I invite you to attend the next open house at Taxi2000 where you can see film of work that is being done on experimental computer controls for regular cars. A fleet of cars equipped with these devices are tested on actual road conditions and run about 6 feet apart. Of course those cars are actual street models and traveling around 50 to 60 MPH. Since PRT is lighter and traveling up to 40 MPH they could probably travel together around 4 feet apart.
What about the length of the side track needed to load 18,000 people from Target Center? Someone going from Uptown to Northeast is gonna get fed up...
Since the track would be more of a grid there would be alternate routes for those moving from uptown to NE. And side track is only needed for the stations.
