BEDIAKO ANNOUNCES 8TH WARD CITY COUNCIL CAMPAIGN

On Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center,
at 6:15 p.m., Titi Bediako will formally announce her bid for the 8th Ward City
Council seat and the DFL endorsement.

Bediako, a lifelong resident of Minneapolis, has lived in the 8th Ward most of
her life. She is a homeowner who has a college age daughter and a teenage son.
Titi, pronounced "Tee-Tee" is a nationally awarded educator who received the
Trenholm Award from the National Education Association (NEA) in 2002, which is
awarded to only two educators throughout the United Sates per year. She is
also the founder and executive director of WE WIN Institute, Inc, an
organization dedicated to the academic and social success of all children. She
is responsible for a clean-up project in the Central community during the
summer months that includes children as young as five. This program helps
children understand not only the importance of a clean neighborhood, but
personal responsibility.

Bediako believes that the 8th Ward needs a council member who will help give
all members of the ward a voice in the crucial issues that affect the political
economic and social wellbeing of those living in the ward. As council person
for the eighth ward, I intend to research where all the economic resources are
for ward and how to best assure that they are equitably distributed, Bediako
said.

Bediako will be a voice for the people of the 8th ward and focus on the issues
of safety, education, jobs and equity, housing and development. Constituency
services have been a very serious issue in the Ward. Bediako believes that it
is important that the community trusts that their voice will be heard. She
will begin that process by starting her campaign with Precinct Talks in each of
the precincts in the ward to listen primary concerns of the community and
developing a strategy to address those issues.
