If they could schedule M-U in there way back when, they can work in De now. What about Boom Island since we lost the paddleboats? That seems large enough for the purpose and last time I looked, it was just a sandy flat area with a couple of weather shelters and is just about a block away with some parking already there. Bottineau? For that matter, what are they using now?<<<
Barry responds: Right now, DeLaSalle already has a practice field right behind the high school -but apparently it's not big enough to be a regulation field. They play 8 varsity football games a year (4 are away games). For the 4 home games, they take a bus to public fields near Fort Snelling (I don't know why they don't cut a deal with one of the public schools nearby - North is only a 5 minute drive and has a very nice field). Your question is a good one that we have asked. The neighbors, park users and visitors are solidly against the expansion - what a use for one of the gems of our City's park system! We have no explanation from the Park Board about why they were doing site tours over the summer, the neighborhood didn't even learn about the proposal till December (and then from our state legislators). We are notifying as many in the broader neighborhood as we can - but have been told by some in the minority faction on the Park Board that if this only required a majority vote, it would already be done.
