In a recent interview (1/3/2005,
http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/5165197.html), Park
Superintendent Jon Gurban said:

"I think my challenge is to figure out ways to communicate effectively with
each of the park
commissioners so we can have good discussions and debate amongst ourselves ...
I do think there's
a little too much emphasis placed on consensus."

A good start would be for Mr. Gurban to share information with all of the Park
Commissioners- not
just those that hired him.

It troubles me to see the growing list of projects which are the byproduct of
one or two
Commissioners' (or perhaps the Superintendent's) fancy and which have no
community buy-in. As I
am out talking with people, I hear concerns about the increasing costs of park
services, but no
public clamoring for Park Board subsidized banquet centers, restaurants,
marinas, stadiums,
miniature golf courses, sports complexes or yacht clubs.
