I am passing this along since it sounds like more than just dirt has been moving around on Nicollet Island! Perhaps it is not just for four home games?! > > Neerland & Oyaas, Inc. > http://www.neerland.oyaas.com
> The alarmed rich people who live on or near Nicollet Island will be pleasantly surprised to see that we are alerting sympathizers to the scandalous attempt by De La Salle alumni to build a football/soccer field in proximity to their tony dwellings. Apparently addle-headed De La Salle alumni, including the notorious John Derus, are raising funds to support a scheme that would allow for construction of this athletic facility in cooperation - heaven forbid! - with the Minneapolis park and RECREATION Board. Don't these chuckleheads know that this whole island is a national historic district? Who do these people think they are, promoting the interests of an institution that's only been there 110 years? The wily alumni and other benefactors have been able, apparently, to conduct this campaign in stealth mode, holding golf tournaments, raffles, and dinners under the cloak of darkness. In a letter exposing the plan, one resident hit it right on the head: "If sold to a developer, this land could be worth millions." Implying, of course, that there is a dollar number greater than the interests of the kids that De La Salle serves. It is hoped, now that this plan is exposed to the light of day, that De La Salle athletes can continue to further their education by riding the bus to hither and yon for so-called "home" athletic events.
