Each member is responsible for reviewing them at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
They are largely a refinement of our previous rules with a few key changes:
1. The suspension terms are more progressive. After a first warning, a member is suspended for two weeks (that is new and shorter than before), then six months, etc.
2. Rule #4 is specific: "Be Civil - This is a public forum with real people. Respect among citizens with differing views is our cornerstone."
Points 1 & 2 go together. Because there is more flexibility in suspensions, I will be warning people more regularly. I have hesitated in the past to cast even recalcitrant members out for six months because I value opinion diversity on the list.
My tolerance has been abused lately by a few. Now, since the first suspension is for just two weeks, I'll be more by the book. And for some of you, that especially means following the "Be Civil" rule.
Criticism of public officials is allowed, but it still has to be appropriate, backed up by facts (not speculation) and allow for respectful disagreement. Needless to say, insulting other members will not be tolerated.
New rules mean a good time for everyone to review their behavior. Again, every member should review the new rules - you are responsible for them, as am I for my actions as list manager. Any questions, email me OFF LIST.
Also, this post is not debatable.
