My third-grader just came home from school with his promised reward for
doing homework assigned by the superintendent over winter break. It's a sort
of keychain that you wear around your neck, made out of strap material, like
something a medal or an ID tag would hang from.

It's kind of attractive: black background decorated with a couple dozen
flags of the world. On closer inspection one symbol appears twice: that of
General Electric, the familiar cursive GE letters staking out prominent
spots on both sides at about lapel position.

I'm curious if this was standard issue district-wide. As corporate gifts
sent home from school go, it's not badbetter than the movie promo flyers
masquerading as bookmarks. Plus, as my son pointed out, he didn't even
really finish the whole homework packet, so all in all, quite a deal.
