1) The Park Board has reallocated 1.3 million dollars this year to deal
with the Dutch Elm Disease issue. Last year we reallocated an additional
$300-500,000 on this same issue to pay for additional tub grinders and
overtime to remove the trees as quickly as possible. Both of these are a
very large reallocation in years when we have yet again had to make
significant funding cuts. In addition, the MPRB has led the way in trying
to acquire additional dollars through the city, state and federal government
ourselves (through writing a bill to deal with this at the state level and
through the efforts of the Tree Commission - which the Park Board founded)
to increase funding for trees in our city. To suggest that the MPRB has
been negligent is simply wrong. We have planted more trees that we have
taken out every year since I have been on the Board, consistently shifted
money into operations to deal with trees, and made a great effort to acquire
additional funds to deal with this issue.

2) The MPRB did not approve the mini golf course that keeps being brought
up!!! At the last meeting of the year a budget compromise was made and that
along with some other specific projects were dropped from the budget! So. .
.. . . . .there is no approved mini golf course for northeast Minneapolis as
has been suggested over and over again!

Sincerely,
John Erwin
At-Large MPRB Commissioner
