To express it on a more personal level ... I will start out up front by saying
I am over-educated and underemployed starting a nonprofit. With that in mind,
my family's income is low enough for my daughter to receive free school
lunches...

Because of the appauling food choices at school, we have chosen to send her bag
lunches and skimp on other things. In the beginning she was disappointed, so we
allow one breakfast and one lunch per month. She has come home with mixed
reviews. Sometimes she reports how totally disgusting it is (she is NOT a picky
eater in the least). Other times she comes home gleefully telling me all the
junk, yes "junk", she lists that she got to eat that day (particularly when
it's a breakfast day).

High fat, high sugar, and (other's didn't mention) incredibly high salt content
does not a well balanced diet make.
