My take on it is that the program is ill-begotten in the first place. The police should not be given the job of being judge and jury in split-second timing to decide whether the person calling the police or the person being called about is more deserving of having the police apprehend her/him, providing lock-up, drug treatment, and the life-long disability which sometimes ensues.
MN: After reading other posts on this list regarding incidents involving the MPD and people living with mental illness, I must say I'm confused by the message Louise is sending. Do we want the police to have some training that could leave them better able to protect and serve, or not? The program may not be perfect, but I'd rather they be more informed than less. If they are willing to do something to help, I think they should have our full support. Mike Nelson Central REMINDERS: 1. Be civil! Please read the NEW RULES at http://www.e-democracy.org/rules.
