In response to Vicky's posts about welcoming businesses... The relationship between businesses and their respective neighborhoods is necessary and requires constant attention. Some neighborhoods have already established strong working relationships with their business partners; others have not. An important first step is to recognize business presence and encourage their participation in the neighborhood. I have asked board members in the Columbia Park neighborhood to strengthen our business outreach efforts. Two board members visited local businesses twice: first as a introductory visit and second to provide information (i.e. by-laws, meeting information and key city department contact information) to business owners. I feel confident now that Columbia Park has actively sought to represent all demographics in the neighborhood. Like any relationship, there needs to be a balanced give and take. I think this balance exists throughout the city and that efforts have been made by neighborhoods and businesses alike to ensure that businesses thrive in and contribute to the vitality of Minneapolis.
