Are you sure those jobs are coming from Home Mortgage's HQ in Des Moines. I was recently with a group in WFHM on a contract. My understanding was that campus was being used to consolidate locations around the Twin Cities. I hadn't heard of any groups getting moved from Des Moines to MPLS. And with those numbers surely a couple business groups were being relocated. I'm not saying it hasn't happened. But it would be a big deal since it would mean they were shrinking the HQ and also risking losing people by moving them to Minneapolis.

Vicky - The jobs that transferred into Phillips West at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage transferred here from Iowa. Last I heard the number was somewhere around 2,700. So, while the people may have come with those jobs, they also rented apartments in your friends buildings or bought homes in Mpls. or the surrounding suburbs including yours. They deposit funds into local banks, put children into the local schools, purchase gas, food, clothes and a variety of other things from the local economy. In all likelihood, they eat at restaurants in my neighborhood for lunch and maybe they bring their families down once in awhile on the weekends. Not sure what the statistical pundits would say that one working person is worth to the local economy but I would bet it's a worthy amount.
