Sure, but why couldn't that be happening now before a ward convention (in fact it already is), then anyone who walks into the ward convention would automatically be a delegate. Precinct caucuses ara an extra layer, one that hampers participate, especially by newbies.

Many of us in the DFL believe that delegates should have more than a day to ponder the potential candidates. That is why we required there to be some time between the caucuses and conventions. This way, delegates can learn more about the candidates in personal forums hosted by candidates, potential debates hosted within each ward, etc. I think it is reasonable to give people more than a day to contemplate their decisions.

Actually, I agree with you on the issue that multiple events can be exclusionary. However, if there is no previous identification of the delegate pool, candidates are required to expend incredible resources campaigning to every resident of a ward. One advantage of this process is that it allows hard-working candidates who don't have a campaign war chest to focus their efforts on endorsement first. Once they receive endorsement, they have the party support structure to help them raise the necessary funds and mount a successful campaign. I would hate to rely on a system that favored those who could simply blanket a ward in literature and drown out the voices of other candidates. That, to me, seems even more exclusionary.
