Actually Dennis, the legislator was Rep. Keith Ellison. The bill was co-sponsored by at least one rural republican legislator. The bill would have reduced sentences for possession of crack by requiring that the person have $10,000 worth of crack in their possession to be convicted of street level sales or $50,000 to be convicted of dealing. It reduced the amounts required for convictions for methamphetimens. There was passionate testimony at the public hearing for that bill from people in Minneapolis. I was one that testified. There were police and other long term activists there to testify as well. The bill did not move out of committee. Not sure what has become of it since. Barb Lickness Whittier
